January 2013 Activities

PDRF Attends UMRBPL Meeting

PBSP, as a member of the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation, attends the 1st collaboration meeting for 2013 hosted by DENR Region IV's Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape Office last January 14, 2013 at Mt. Sinai, Pintong Bukawe, Antipolo City.

DENR-UMRBPL presented their accomplishments for 2012 in terms of livelihood provision, infrastructures and mapping activities for the Marikina Watershed. The plans for 2013 were initially presented to the group with the objective of getting private sector support in some of their planned activities.

PDRF has expressed its commitment to continuously work with DENR on the Marikina Watershed. PBSP, in particular, will be focusing its work on the 4 themes (health, environment, education and livelihood) in the Montalban-Wawa Sub-Watersheds. PBSP will also continue to assist by taking the lead in the livelihood initiatives of the PDRF in the entire Marikina Watershed.

In 2010, a few months after floods from Typhoon Ondoy brought massive destruction to Metro Manila and nearby provinces, the PDRF was organized and established to consolidate and steer private sector initiatives in rehabilitating the Marikina Watershed.

LRC Visits NASAMASABACA, Assesses Ongoing Livelihood Projects

On January 18, the team met with officers and members of the NASAMASABACA in Sitio Binayoyo, Brgy. Calawis, Antipolo, Rizal to assess its pilot livelihood projects on ubeng kinampay, luyang dilaw and siling pangsigang.

At least 40 families were involved in these projects and the farmer beneficiaries shared that the agricultural inputs given last year has somehow provided them additional income. To sustain the assistance, another round of business planning will be facilitated for the group and additional agricultural inputs will be provided. Training on organic farming will also be given to the members.

In March, a demo farm will also be established with funds coming from Brother International Philippines, Inc. and with technical assistance to be provided by PBSP's Center for Rural Technology Development.

The implementation of these livelihood projects is also made possible by funds generated from the 15th Festival of Trees.

Nestle Truckers, Motolite Turn Over Balik Baterya Schooldesks

 Last January 25, Nestle staff and their truckers, turned over 164 school desks to Goa National High School Camarines Sur. This is to help the school

The funds used came from the Motolite-PBSP Balik Baterya donation of Nestle and its truckers. Goa National High School is the 3rd adopted school of the Nestle Supply Chain Management team.

To date, Nestle and its truckers has donated P620K worth of ULABs since they joined the Program in 2009.

LRC Marikina Watershed Team Lives, Interacts with the Dumagats


Last January 28-February 1, LRC Marikina Watershed Team lived among the Dumagats of Sitio Quinao and Sitio Malasya in Brgy. Puray, Rodriguez, Rizal.

The team collected baseline data through FGDs, one-on-one interviews and house visits to be able to come up with more responsive interventions in the areas of health, environment, education and livelihood.

The team’s output will contribute to the programming of the PBSP’s Integrated Montalban-Wawa Subwatersheds Development and Management Plan.
