Aetas and other students receive potable water from Coca-Cola Foundation and PBSP

Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines in partnership with PBSP, recently turned over two potable water systems to their Coca-Cola Little Red Schoolhouses in Malasa Elementary School in Sitio Malasa, Brgy. Anupul, Bamban, Tarlac and Diket Elementary School in Brgy. Diket, Umingan, Pangasinan. With the project, the school communities now have access to safe drinking water. The turnover was led by Ting Cabalza, Program Manager of Coca-Cola Foundation.
Before, the students in Malasa Elementary School and Diket Elementary School suffered from water-borne diseases due to lack of clean, drinking water. Barangay Councilor Noel Manabat from Sitio Malasa who helped formalized the partnership for the potable water system, is very thankful to the donors.
"Noong wala pa yung potable water system, nahihirapan yung mga estudyante kasi yung tubig na sinasalok nila galing sa sapa at ulan ay hindi naman malinis, kaya kadalasan nagkakaroon ng sakit. Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat sa tulong na binigay ng Coca-Cola Foundation at PBSP dahil meron na ngayong malinis na tubig na maiinom ang mga bata sa eskwela," Councilor Manabat said.
(Before we received the potable water system, the students had to fetch water from a nearby creek or collect rainwater but the water was not safe for drinking. We are very thankful for the help that Coca-Cola and PBSP gave our community. Now, our kids will have safe, drinking water in the school.)

Mr. Paco Caparas shares how Bainbridge Management Partners provides safe drinking water to communities in coastal areas with water security problems

Tech pitch presenters discuss their innovations in solving problems on water quality and waste water treatment.

Ms. Sophia Angeli Dayrit from the Department of Environmental Science, Ateneo de Manila University discusses the significance of research methods and tools in developing sustanable solutions to water security

Mr. Carlos Ani, Country Director of Water.org, talks about financing to achieve water sanitation, especially among poor Filipinos across the country. It partners with microfinance institutions to provide easy-to-pay loans for Filipinos to put up their own water and toilet facility in their homes. By doing this, his organization tries to contribute to decrease the number of Filipinos with no access to water because of expensive processing of getting connected to water utility companies.

Mr. Auke Idzenga, of Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Inc. (AIDFI), discusses the importance of involving the community in having access to water. His organization, in partnership with Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, provides poor communities with ram pump technology that filters water from a natural water source. They involve the members of the community to install their own water filters so that they will have a sense of ownership to the technology that gives them easy access to clean water.

Ms. Jenica Dizon, Director of Operations of Waves for Water, introduces the initiatives of her organization in solving water problems. Waves for Water helps communities, especially those with poor access to potable water, by providing low-cost water filter technology. They do it by partnering with private companies that have the same vision to help Filipinos to have access to clean and potable water.

Mr. Kevin Lee, Executive Director of A Single-Drop for Safe Water, Inc., highlights the importance of tapping and partnering with the local government units, especially as they provide safe and affordable water in waterless communities in Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
