WORLD TEACHERS' DAY

"Before Telstra Foundation and PBSP came to Pasay City North High School Main, about 30 percent of our students in all levels were not coming to class. Most of them came from poor families so they did not have money to buy school supplies and other requirements. The school also lacked facilities and materials for teaching and we were not ready when the K to 12 Basic Education Program was implemented. To make matters worse, many students were involved in drugs and gang wars.

Thanks to Telstra Foundation Philippines and PBSP, we received many interventions that improved our school and entire school community. My fellow teachers and I were able to receive Training Methodology Certification which enabled us to conduct institutional assessments of our students and of other schools before they take their National Certification at the Technical Educational Skills Development Authority. Our students also received remedial lessons and were able to harness their academic and extra-curricular skills through Interest Clubs established by Telstra. We were also able to receive equipment to improve our TechVoc livelihood tracks on Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Beverage Services, Accounting Business and Management (ABM), Bartending, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Dressmaking and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Our students are now eager to go to school to study and there are no more drugs and rumbles. We also became the first in Pasay City to have all its Grade 11 students NC-certified. Pasay North is now a model school for Senior High in Pasay.

I feel so fulfilled as a teacher especially when I am able to give my students the skills they need when they graduate, and seeing them come back to the school and telling me that they were able to use it to achieve their dreams." --BARBARA FELICIANO, Academic Group Head and Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Teacher of Pasay City North High School Main
