Philippines, as part of their Corporate Citizenship (CC), conceptualized the Strengthening Community Disaster
Preparedness and Response Project: Phase 1
with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to increase the
disaster response capacity of their host community, particularly the United BF
Homeowner’s Association, Inc. (UBFHAI),and support the Philippine National
Police in Las Piñas City (PNP-LP) through capacity building intervention and
provision of disaster emergency equipment.
Last January 21,
2014, Dow Chemical Philippines Ltd., with PBSP, turned-over various disaster
rescue tools and equipments such as the spine board, rescue buoy ring, life
vest, hard hats and safety boots and the likes, to the community of UBFHAI and
the PNP in Las Pinas City. The provision of the disaster tools and equipments
shall capacitate the preparedness and response of the community during
disasters preventing loss of lives affected. Besides the provision of the
emergency response materials, around 12 key personnel from the LGU were also
provided with training on Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid (FA),
enhancing their knowledge in rescue operations during disasters.
Dow Chem, as a

On the other hand,
PBSP supports the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: Building the Resilience
of Nation to Communities and Disasters, providing a unique opportunity to
promote a strategic and systematic approach to reducing vulnerabilities and
risks to hazards as well as the Republic Act 10121 or the Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Act of 2010 which aims to strengthen the Philippine
DRRM system, provide for the National DRRM Framework, and institutionalize the
National DRRM Plan, and appropriate funds for it.
Turning over the
tools to Las Pinas Police Major Noel Calaptia and UBFHAI Vice President Jerome
Da Silva is Dow Chem Country Manager Mr. Roberto Batungbacal. Las Pinas City
DRRM Office representatives and PBSP staff were also present in the event.
